Asthma affects one in four children in West Philadelphia. PHDC is partnering with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to combine home repairs and health education to reduce asthma triggers.

In the Community Asthma Prevention Program Plus (CAPP+) Home Repairs Program, CHOP provides home asthma education and environmental interventions. PHDC remediates asthma triggers in the home. These triggers can be moisture and mold cause by plumbing leaks or air quality impaired by pest infestations or carpets.

The program began with a 10-home pilot. Based on the success of that pilot, PHDC and CHOP have expanded the program, and more children in West Philadelphia are breathing easier.
