Thank you for visiting the PHDC website. Please note that PHDC offices are closed as part of Philadelphia’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. While PHDC is accepting applications to buy land and responses to competitive sales and Requests for Proposals, the review of those documents may take longer than usual. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we respond to the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis.
Are you interested in turning the vacant lot next to your house into a side or rear yard? Or creating a community garden on the vacant lot down the street or around the corner? If the land is owned by a public agency that might be possible. Please note that in August of 2019, PRA and PLB merged with PHDC. You may note some of those entities referenced in these sections.
Side or Rear Yards
Some properties can be purchased for a side or rear yard by a homeowner who lives next to or in front of a vacant lot.
Community Gardens, Open Space and Recreational Areas
The City of Philadelphia has a strong commitment to community gardening and urban agriculture as important land uses that support thriving neighborhoods.
